General Communications, Inc. Wins Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Contract

Salt Lake City, UT – March 24, 2004 – General Communications, Inc., a leading audio/video/data communications technology organization, announced the receipt of an agreement with the University of Utah Hospital to provide design and integration services for an Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC will be the hospital’s heart of communications in the event of any number of community or hospital emergency situations.

The complex communications systems will involve the integration of in-house video sources, external news sources, hospital data sources, and a unifying user control system. Also included in the contract is the design and integration of a backup facility.

“We are very excited about the award of this project,” says Ingolf de Jong, President and Chief Operating Officer for General Communications, Inc. “For many years, General Communications has been involved in the integration of Emergency Operations Centers as well as Command and Control facilities. We plainly see the heightened need for rapid, effective communications between various organizations and agencies when there is an emergency situation. This new facility will allow better communications between hospital staff and local law enforcement and fire agencies.”
